AFTERCARE
Thanks for choosing Nobody’s Business as the place to get your new tattoo!
Here are some tips on how to look after it from the moment you leave the studio.
Every artist / studio has different recommendations on aftercare but we would appreciate it if you could follow our advice below.
Second skin
If you have been given second skin, please follow these instructions:
-
You can leave second skin on for up to 48 hours.
- If the second skin comes off on its own before 48hrs, bathe it gently in warm water with a small (pea sized) amount of antibacterial soap and pat dry with a clean towel or kitchen roll. No rubbing.
-
- Apply a thin layer of coconut oil. Continue to apply coconut oil twice / three times a day for 5 days.
-
If the second skin remains in place, on the second day take it off by pulling gently from the bottom corner in a downwards direction. This will cause the second skin to lift and stretch away from the skin. Do not pull the bottom corner upwards in a ‘waxing’ motion, this will irritate your skin and make it sore.
-
It’s easiest to take second skin off under water - in the shower etc.
-
Once the second skin is off, gently bathe it in warm water with a small (pea sized) amount of antibacterial soap and pat dry with a clean towel or kitchen roll. No rubbing.
-
Apply a thin layer of coconut oil. Continue to apply coconut oil twice / three times a day for 3 weeks.
-
While the second skin is still on, it might look a little wet inside like the ink is coming out of the tattoo. This is a mix of plasm and excess ink and is totally normal. You do not need to change the second skin if this happens.
Cling film
If you have been given cling film, please follow these instructions:
-
6 hours after your tattoo (or before you go to bed that night) remove the cling film and gently bathe it in warm water with a small (pea sized) amount of antibacterial soap and pat dry with a clean towel or kitchen roll. No rubbing.
-
Apply a thin layer of coconut oil and re-wrap with cling film for your first nights sleep.
-
In the morning, remove the cling film and bathe again, pat dry and reapply the coconut oil. Apply coconut oil twice or three times a day for 3 weeks.
DOs and DONTs
-
Do shower as normal with your tattoo, make sure you’re always patting dry with a clean towel or kitchen roll. No rubbing.
-
Do wear loose clothing around your tattoo for extra comfort. Similarly, wear dark colours if you’re getting a lot of colour work or large areas of black.
-
Don’t submerge your tattoo in water for at least 3 weeks - no swimming, baths, saunas etc.
-
Don’t itch or pick your tattoo. Leave the flakes to fall off on their own! If it’s itchy, slap it.
-
Don’t over moisturise your tattoo. The coconut oil is to create a protective barrier and hydrate the tattoo - less is more.
-
Don’t expose your new tattoo to the sun for at least 2 weeks - after this time, use factor 50SPF at all times to keep the tattoo healthy and fresh.
